Is Cannabis Taking Over the Las Vegas Speakeasy Scene?

April 26, 2017

In the days of prohibition, a slew of nightclubs willing to still sell illegal alcohol appeared on the scene, eventually being dubbed the name “speakeasy”. These clubs hosted the likes of big mobsters such as Al Capone, Lucky Luciano, and Meyer Lansky. Eventually with the fall of prohibition the “speakeasy” scene became known as the “nightlife” scene. Even famous nightclubs such as New York’s Club21 and KGB were once pooled in with the rest of the speakeasy scene. Today, such

a term still applies – for marijuana that is.

Las Vegas, which has only recently legalized recreational use of cannabis, is a hotspot for the new version of speakeasy. Las Vegas is host to dozens of marijuana dispensaries so it was only time that “smoke” shops would appear, as well.

Although it may not go under the pseudonym, “speakeasy”, the premise is still the same: a safe place to smoke marijuana without the threat of police prosecution.

This idea has prompted the opening up of various shops including Your 420 Club and Loopr. At Your 420 Club you can purchase a membership of which enables you to bring in your own cannabis and smoke it within their vicinity. Although you cannot buy marijuana at these locations, they do provide bongs, pipes, and rollies to smokers. According to the Your 420 Club website their mission is to “strive to give cannabis users a better place to socialize and use cannabis”.

Possible the most luxurious 420-friendly speakeasy of them all is Kush Lounge Las Vegas, a sprawling mansion with state of the art kitchen, smoking lounge, pool and multiple floors for photos, cannabis infused massages and tons of rooms for snacks for munchies. High Society, an insider group of Nevada’s cannabis industry notables held their inaugural 420 celebration, unveiling the space to the masses. See more pictures here via Dope Foto.
